Whilst we were staying at the Loch Melfort hotel we went for a walk along the Crinan Canal. As you can see the ice made the canal impassable.

In fact the canal was closed and drained in one section to allow a new waterproof membrane to be inserted in the footpath.

These photographs are of and from the excellent, and to be highly recommended, Loch Melfort Hotel where we stayed for two nights on our way to Mull. I’m able to get an internet connection here, but probably not anywhere else till I return so I may be off-line for a bit.
The Hotel.

From the front late afternoon.

The clarity of the water is evident here.

Late evening as the sun went down.

Monday I went up to Paisley to housewatch for my daughter whilst her new kitchen double-glazed window was installed.
The first shot is of the Town Hall with the Abbey peeking round the back.

The Abbey by itself.

The Town Hall by itself.

This Eider Duck was in spendid isolation in the middle of Newhaven harbour as we walked to lunch.

We were over in Edinburgh at the weekend, staying with some friends and going with them to a whisky and champagne tasting event (I tasted the whisky, Marjorie the champagne).
We of course seized the opprtunity to see our great-niece, Catriona, as well.
I shouldn’t really have put my name in the copyright on the first photograph since it was Catriona who pressed the shutter – I held the camera since it was a bit heavy for her. The car, with leather bodywork, was parked outside the Loch Fyne Restaurant.

I think she quite fancied owning it!

Couldn’t resist posting this one from the lunch we had just before the first two photographs.

I put on the big lens and took a few distance shots.
I couldn’t miss the opportunity of photographing Arran again!

Then I moved slightly southwards to take the southern end of the Mull of Kintyre. The low section slightly left of centre is where Campbeltown and Machrihanish are.

Moving slightly further south and the coastline of Northern Ireland can be seen on a clear day.

These are photographs around the Dunure Harbour.

YOu’ll notice the modern Dunure Village up the hill.

The lighthouse was built in 1811 at the same time as the harbour.

This shows the roofs of the old village right beside the sea.
