From around 1061, the village of Little Walsingham has been a significant place of Christian pilgrimage in England. All the information you could want will be found at the link given.
These photographs were taken within the grounds of the ruined Priory.

Today’s photographs are from Wells-next-the-Sea, another small town further round the coast. It is fairly down-market around the sea-front ( fish supper catering!), but further back there are still some nice eating establishments and streets.

Norfolk is proud of its many round tower churches and this one at Burnham Deepdale is a prime example.

Just a little south-west of the East Anglia village where we were staying is the village of Snettisham. It is separated from its west facing beach by the village bypass and a fairly large expanse of sand dune area.
These two photographs were taken at differing times and at very slightly different positions, but give a good indication of the different enviroments which are created for the birds.

On the Saturday afternoon, we visited the RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh.
There are a mixture of fresh-water and salt-water reed beds. This is one of the fresh-water beds with a busy Coot in the middle of it.

The reserve also has a beach shoreline. Until the Great Floods of 1953, the land in the next photographs was in fact farmland and there was a seawall about 1 Kilometer further out.

On the Saturday morning after our arrival in Norfolk, we went to visit Sandringham – unfortunately the Queen wasn’t in! No, we knew the house gardens and museum were not open, but we were able to wander round the estate.
The first photograph is of the estate war memorial, just ouside where we would have entered if we could have.

The other photographs were taken in the Sandringham woods.

Having managed to reach Norfolk, we went to our nearest town, Hunstanton, to shop. This building currently houses the Tourist Information Office.

When we left Edinburgh in the morning going down to Norfolk, we had been promised a light fall of snow. We got the snow and it wasn’t light. We ended up following the wheel tracks of the vehicle in front as we made our way down through the Scottish Borders – no photographs since there was no way I was stopping the car!
At Berwick I got my route slightly wrong and ended up going through the town rather than along the bypass. Listening to the radio announcements, it seemed the gods had been with me. I had just cleared Berwick when I heard that the bypass had been blocked by lorries unable to negotiate the gradient there – just at the time I had gone the wrong way.
Luckily for me, we had already decided to take a break in the journey and stop off in Harrogate. I was more than happy to stop there after those road conditions and have the following photographs for you from there – including the ‘mad’ hat shop.

On our way down to Norfolk to bird watch and dig up some of Marjorie’s ancestors (not literally), we stopped off in Edinburgh to visit a friend. These three photographs were taken at Cramond, looking over the River Forth to the hills of Fife.

These photographs were taken on Tuesday morning from the Ayr esplanade and show the Brown Carrick Hills in their snow covering using the small Panasonic camera.
I like the haze over the water at the lower level.

I used the zoom on this to give a bit more definition.

My posting and comments are likely to be a bit erratic until the end of next week, so bear with me!
