I took this from close to Rosemarkie in the Black Isle. The sun glinting of the red and white of the boat was such a contrast against the blue of the Moray Firth and the sky.

Back in Italy again, this time to the Island of Sicily. We flew to Rome and then travelled by train to Catania on Sicily. Yes, I said we went to an island by a train; not through a tunnel, not over a bridge, but on a boat. That was one of the reasons to go by train – the carriages were actually rolled onto a boat train with us in them.

The one thing you can’t get from this photograph is the noise of the haliyards slapping against the masts of these beached boats.

My nephew Neil, in his blog post of yesterday, made reference to the Waverley – an old paddle steamer built in 1947 which, as far as can be ascertained, is the last remaining sea-going paddle steamer in the world.
This picture was taken on Monday afternoon from Doonfoot as she made her way down to Girvan and Ailsa Craig.

Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in Scotland has long been known for its multi-coloured houses.
We visited Burano in the Venetian Lagoon and it was like sailing into Tobermory Bay!

The boatmen here lasso the stanchions to anchor the boat for the short period they are alongside the pier.

The coloured houses here are not just at the harbour, but all over the island.

Another photograph from Aberlady Bay, this time over the Firth of Forth looking at a boat sailing up to, I think, Grangemouth Refinery.

A photo of the gloomy weather laying over Goatfell and the surrounding peaks as we left Arran aboard the MV Saturn.
Brodick Castle is slightly below centre-left of the picture.

Although there are nowhere near as many fishing boats as there used to be on the Clyde, you still get one or two inshore boats looking for crab and lobster.
