Still at old Kirk Alloway, I took this photograph from one side of the building through a window to where the roof used to be, but now the trees and sky show wonderfully.

These two photographs were taken at Old Kirk Alloway.
The wall construction over the root of the tree is thought to be of a later date than the church building itself, made to accommodate the base of the tree without further damaging the wall. Above the root is a five-sided piscina, although the stone has weathered to the point where it is difficult to determine the sides.

Because it’s the 250 anniversary of Burns, 2009 has been designated Homecoming Year in Scotland. I’m sorry to be cynical, but it has nothing to do with Burns, but a lot to do with trying to get more tourists in Scotland – no doubt a very admirable objective in itself.
I rather think that the ‘decorations’ could have been somewhat better than this.

I must admit though that Old Kirk Alloway does look pretty atmospheric.
